Extraordinary Gentlemen

This is the second time that Neil Gaiman is going to appear on this blog in less than a week, but so be it…

James and I were dreaming up a League of Extraordinary Gentleman homage the other day, featuring everyone’s favorite British Graphic-Novelists, so I went home and drew them up:

The League, personal illustration

Pictured (from left to right):

Warren Ellis (Transmetropolitan), Grant Morrison (Animal Man, Doom Patrol), Alan Moore (V for Vendetta, From Hell, Watchmen, etc.), Neil Gaiman (Sandman), and Garth Ennis (Preacher).

These men give me vertigo.

(Bu-DUM-chhh)

I like that Warren Ellis looks a bit like an evil Charles Dickens. And that Grant Morrison looks like Lex Luthor. And that Alan Moore looks like Rasputin…but then again, when does Alan Moore not look like Rasputin?

Anyway, here’s the pre-greywashed line version:

I have no idea how tall any of these men are, respective to one another, so the scale might be way off. Garth Ennis, in particular, looks a lot shorter than I meant him to. Maybe I just made him slightly more Leprechaun-like subconsciously, because he’s Irish. He’s North Irish though…so still qualifies as “British”.

I didn’t make up the Guinness shirt though; he does wear that sometimes. I promise. I’ve seen pictures.

I wasn’t done with Alan Moore’s face though, so I did this caricature yesterday afternoon:

When a friend asked what I was doing, and I responded “Drawing Alan Moore,” he laughed and shouted “THAT crazy Wizard!”

“Word”, I said.

Word.
