Go Fish!
I made up a joke yesterday. It goes like this: Q: Why was Gogol such a crap fisherman? A: Because all he could catch were… [Rimshot] If you want, you can substitute Ian Curtis in the telling. Go ahead, I don’t mind. Sole are horrifying-looking. But fun to draw. Here’s a couple more sketches I did of fish from the seafood case at my work: Sardines Branzini

I don't sow, do you?
So now that HBO’s Game of Thrones is finished for the year, I’ve found that there’s a Westeros-shaped hole in my life, so I’ve started in on the books… (yes I’m one of those fans, who never knew anything about the series until it was on TELEVISION, and who’s now fixated) Anyway, I’m about halfway into Clash of Kings, and so far I’m finding...

Extraordinary Gentlemen
This is the second time that Neil Gaiman is going to appear on this blog in less than a week, but so be it… James and I were dreaming up a League of Extraordinary Gentleman homage the other day, featuring everyone’s favorite British Graphic-Novelists, so I went home and drew them up: The League, personal illustration Pictured (from left to right): Warren Ellis...

Fan Mail?
A couple weeks ago I was fortunate enough to meet author Neil Gaiman (a favorite of mine for nearly a decade now) and Adam Savage (of Mythbusters fame) at a reading that the former was hosting in Berkeley, CA. I was there acting in the capacity of one-man-entourage/merch-watcher/general-go-fer for Zoe Boekbinder—one of my oldest friends and a fantastic musician (check out her new website at...

Impossible Hybrids
Here’s just a couple more… Each was an illustration for a musician, and each features an animal-person hybrid. Kind of. Impossible Girl#2, Interior album art This was an illustration for an art booklet which corresponded to the release of the remarkable Kim Boekbinder’s album The Impossible Girl. (Check it out here:...

the Owls Are Not What They Seem
While trolling the internet the other day, I came across a quote from the book of Job which read: “I am a brother to dragons and a companion to owls” Which is pretty epic…and immediately made me think about Twin Peaks. Frankly, I’m sure you had the same response. Anyway, shortly after I read that, I was at the Pacific Coast Brewing Company and I drew this, using only a...

Sea Beasts and Elder Things
Kraken V. Behemoth, Personal Commission. I just finished this piece for my friend/coworker/fellow-über-nerd James… he requested a scene reminiscent of the sperm whale/giant squid’s epic battle, but decidedly more mythic. And he got this. Although I just finished this version, the original sketch for it was done a few months ago, on a paper placemat, at the Saturn Café: I like that you can...

Newthings
I’ve never really considered myself the blogging type, but it occurred to me the other day that I have essentially no artistic web-presence, so I’m presenting this as my effort to rectify the situation a bit. Also, as I was going through artworks to potentially include here, I found a handful of preparatory sketches from more complete illustrations, and I realized this might be a fun...
